MATCH PREVIEW | Reserves tackle Tigers this Saturday

Reserves action heads to The OneBore Stadium this Saturday as Leeds Rhinos aim to get back to winning ways as Chev Walker's side take on Castleford Tigers, kick off 1.30pm.

Currently sitting third in the current standings behind Wigan and Warrington, Leeds fell to the Warriors in the opening game of the second half of the season as Jack Bird's sole try was the only points the Rhinos could muster in a 24-6 defeat to the competition leaders. It's the first time in 2026 the side has lost back-to-back games after a high-scoring 34-26 defeat to Hull KR last time out, but they head into this week with confidence after producing a remarkable second-half comeback to beat Saturday's opponent 28-16 back in May.

Riley Lumb - who's performances subsequently has seen the winger upgraded into the first team in recent weeks -  Ned McCormack, Harley Thomas and Marcus Qareqare were all try scorers in that game and have been amongst the leading lights for Walker in 2026. Thomas has only missed one game but has flourished as a half back alongside Harry Smith, whilst the Wigan game broke a two game scoring streak for Qareqare would has six tries to his name this campaign. With no Academy game this week too, there will be an opportunity for the club's Under-18s to continue their good form after beating Warrington last weekend. Wade White is the latest Academy player to represent the Reserves in 2026, and is one of ten Under-18s to play in the Reserves.

Alongside the Tigers, Leeds also look forward to away trips to Warrington and Wakefield heading into August, before hosting Hull FC as a double header with the first team's game against Leigh. By this time, they hope to have a spot in the top four confirmed and prepare for a semi-final appearance later in August.

Castleford qualified inside the top six as they defeated Hull FC on the final week of the first part of the season to move above the Black and Whites - even though they played a game less than the rest of the competition due to a postponed clash against London. Before their meeting with the Rhinos at AMT Headingley earlier in the campaign, Scott Murrell's side had put themselves in with a chance of making the top six after beating Warrington on home soil, but later confirmed their spot as they saw off Leigh and Hull on home soil.

Their first game after the split might have ended in a 17-10 defeat to Warrington, but the result will have given the side confidence heading into this week's match against the Rhinos. Should the home side come away with a win, they'll move just two points behind their Yorkshire rivals with three games to go before the semi finals.
